Paralympic archery sports training

Abstract

In the introduction, authors briefly characterize paralympic archery, pointing at the differences from the ablebodied sport and describe the classification for high performance disability sport. Theoretical part of the article is of medical nature and it is focused on people with spinal cord injury, specifically tetraplegia.

It deals with the symptoms, causes, diagnosis and medical complications affecting both daily life and sport of wheelchair users. The main part of this article is dedicated to Czech paralympic archer David Drahonínský and his training in the paralympic cycles.

In the paralympic cycle, there is excessive burden on the paralympians, with up to seven training sessions a week, including fitness training. Demanding sport training along with medical rehabilitation, recovery and mental training were rewarded by two medals (the silver one in individuals and the bronze one in team mix) at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and thereby contributed to overall profit of seven medals for the Czech team.

Moreover, the paralympic 2015/2016 season of David Drahonínský was very successful with the improvement of several world record.
