The role of the occupational therapist in the issue of driving motor vehicles in the Czech Republic and abroad for people with functional deficits

Abstract

Topic driving a car of people with acquired functional deficits is crucial to solve, because in the Czech Republic is not impossible to achieve effective tools for evaluation of the patient's functional state and his ability to control the car. In many European countries, the patient's ability to drive a car is solved by rehabilitation team.

For many patients the ability to control their car is absolutely indispensable factor for life because it allows many items of selfcare and could be replacing them their lower extremity. Occupational therapy intervention for individuals with acquired functional deficits may be focused on the evaluation of functional abilities in the field of motor vehicles and design optimal solutions in the form of an adaptation procedure according to the type of functional impairment.
