Rhythm of movements significantly affects the overall individual movement patterns, movement technique and skill to bring the expected movement or sport performance. The rhythm of movement can be cultivated by rhythm of the music during exercises with music.
Certain level of musical ability is a basic prerequisite. The aim of the research is to determine whether it is possible to increase students' level of musicality components measured by A.
Bentley battery of tests through one semester of teaching gymnastics subjects, which are implemented in conjunction with the music. Students acquire theoretical knowledge and practical experience in music-movement education with an accent on correct rhythm of movement and support movement creativity in subjects Rhythmic Gymnastics and Dance.
Four components of musical abilities were measured in a battery of tests: remembering melodies, remembering rhythmic patterns, distinguishing pitches and chords analysis. Measurements were taken by 152 students at the beginning and end of the semester.
Difference between the individual results and between the groups was measured. The pretest ranked 107 students, i.e. 70.8%, according to the rating scales of individual tests into groups as "excellentˮ, "above averageˮ and "averageˮ.
Even without targeted adjustments to the lessons content, which would lead to development of the musicality skills, 63.6% of these students improved. When the group was evaluated only with three tests, omitting chords test analysis, 75.5% of students improved.
The results of students rated as "below averageˮ and "poorˮ remained the same. It can therefore be concluded that the knowledge and skills taught in Gymnastics lessons may positively affect not only the level of musicality components, particularly in more musically gifted students, but also may simultaneously contribute to the development of music-movement skills and rhythm of movement.
