The purpose of this paper is to present a research proposal focused on gender in Art Education. The research aims to explore the current level of education on the topic of gender in art classes at secondary and grammar schools in the Czech Republic.

The main question is whether the observed level corresponds with the current theoretical conclusions from the field of philosophy, visual studies, cultural anthropology and cultural education. The research will be conducted through the analysis of available educational documents and especially, by analysing specific teaching approaches in practice.

The data obtained will then be interpreted in terms of phenomenology and critical theory. In the next phase, the results of research will be used to create a broader strategy on how to mediate the topic of gender to pupils and students in general.

The outcome of the study will be the publication of methodological approaches for art teachers in the Czech Republic and it will also be an innovative design in teacher education programmes (Bc., Mgr.) particularly for visual literacy and art, as well as cultural education.
