Colostrum is a rich source of essential, bioactive and immunomodulatory compounds important for a growth and a nutrition of newborns, and also for developing their passive immunity. In recent year, bovine colostrum is used in dietary supplements, therefore we decided to extend knowledges about the immunomodulatory effect of bovine colostrum to human health.
The immunomodulatory effects of bovine defatted or fatted colostrum were compared on the basis of secretion of cytokines by human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) after the 3-day stimutation in vitro. Luminex multiplex analysis was used to analyze the production of cytokines. Our results has shown that bovine defatted colostrum stimulate the secretion of Th2 cytokines IL-10, IL-4 and IL-5 in compared with bovine milk.
Increased production of IL-4 and IL-10 leads to inhibite the production of Th1 cytokines.
