Abstract

A summarized description of the religion and the history of the religious-ethnic communities of the Yaresan (known in older literature as Ahl-e Haqq) and the Shabaks, with a focus on their history from the 19th century onwards in their respective countries of origin (Iraq, Iran) as well as in diaspora. The study is based on a critical approach to the existing landmark academic works, media reporting, the community's self-presentation in publications and the media, and consultations with Yaresan and Shabak informants.

According to the information available to the author, the book chapter he has written is so far the first Czech-language expert text ever on the Shabaks and the most extensive one on the Yaresan, respectively.
