Patients' Safety In Motol University Hospital viewed In The Perspective of Internal Medicine Nurses

Abstract

The article presents the result overview of patient safety culture from the perspective of the nurses of the internal medicine departments of the Motol University Hospital. A standardized questionnaire, which was validated into the Czech language as "Nemocniční průzkum bezpečnosti pacientů" and provided by the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research was used to conduct the survey. 207 nurses took part in the survey.

The individual dimensions (components) of the safety culture were evaluated by the nursing staff and major weaknesses and strengths of the safe nursing care were identified. Hospital was perceived by nurses as highly positive.

The number of events reported has been experienced by up to 80 % of nurses within last 12 months. The evaluation of the safety culture dimensions was then applied in order to find out the differences between the individual working stations.
