Abstract
Starting school, a child acquires a new role in life which lasts for many years - the role of a pupil and a student. Success in school has a major effect on the next development of the child, in terms of future employment and also in terms of self-esteem and personal development.
A failure in school may be a source of negative selfesteem and it may cause mental illness; it may however be ks consequence as well and in many times the first symptom of mental illness. One of the questions is how much should school employees participate in searching or even diagnosing mental illnesses among their pupils, and what should they do when they have pupils with suspicion on mental illness.
Another important question concerns the care of patients with mental illness in school. According to the law, schools should respect the advices of experts on mental illness, but the truth is that in certain cases the decision on the procedure is on a school director.
The message focuses on theoretical possibilities and practical examples of communication and cooperation between ministries of health, education and social welfare.
