Abstract

Bronchoscopy is helpful in the differential diagnosis of chronic respiratory symptoms possibly related to a reflux disease. We assess the presence and degree of inflammatory changes and possible damage to the structure of the airways and collecting biological material (BAL, biopsy, microbiology).

Pathological changes are observed during bronchoscopy for the diagnosis of reflux disease-specific, can support the diagnosis. At present it is not clear whether the number of macrophages containing fatty inclusions (lipophages), concentration of pepsin or other biomarker used to diagnose reflux disease or to predict response to treatment.
