Usage evaluation of an ice hockey stadium

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to conduct a usage evaluation of an ice hockey stadium located in Central Bohemia region of the Czech Republic. The work analyzes years 2011-2013, focusing on utilization of the ice surface, public skating hours and skating schools.

We interviewed stadium manager, visitors, and carried out a competitive analysis of stadiums around the town of Mělník. All values obtained from the analysis were subsequently compared with national average values obtained from KPMG research (2012).

The analysis identified potential for greater efficiency in utilizating of the ice surface, especially increased use of the ice rink in the months of September to March, an increase in the attendance of public skating (improve the offer in December and January) and skating schools during in the same period. Another area of under utilization of the ice surface was is in the months of March - August.

The most important reccomandation is to improve the skating schools in all aspects - promotion, product quality, communication. Because more skating children will contribute a better future for the ice hockey stadium.
