Abstract
The spatial and temporal variability of snowpack play a crucial role in the ecology of mountain plants. Snowpack provides protection from extreme temperatures and from harmful effects of the wind.
In terms of their relationship to snowpack, plants can be classified as chionophobous and chionophilous.
