Children with increased risk of gastroesophageal reflux disease

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2016

Abstract

Higher incidence of reflux disease is observed in children with neurological disorders in obese patients with abnormalities of the esophagus and stomach (esophageal atresia, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, achalasia) in skeletal muscle disease and chronic respiratory diseases (asthma, cystic fibrosis) and in patients after lung transplantation. Overcoming the problems do not necessarily mean the failure of antireflux therapy may be due to the underlying disease, and is not necessary in all cases automatically escalate therapy.
