Abstract

General practitioner deals most frequently with eyelids inflammatory lesions like hordeolum [stye] or chalasion [meibomian cyst], conjunctivitis and lacrimal drainage system diseases. Many of these clinical diagnoses could be treated directly at the place of accident.

Cases presenting acute visual impairment or complete loss of vision require special management of emergency treatment. Those issues mostly occur in an older age group reflecting especially diabetes and arteriosclerotic vascular changes.

The most common causes are vitreous hemorrhage, optic nerve inflammation, retinal occlusive disease or retinal detachment. The aim of the first aid is to send the patient to professional examination to internal medicine or ophthalmology specialist.

Acute congestive angle closure "acute glaucoma" is a rapidly progressive sight - threatening emergency that presents with visual impairment, ocular pain and headache. For treatment and prognosis is crucial to make out correct diagnosis.

Matters of injuries range in severity from superficial lid lacerations and superficial conjunctival foreign bodies, witch are possible to be resolved even outside of the hospital. Corneal foreign, larger periocular lacerations, blunt traumas, orbital injuries and especially penetrating injuries require specialized intervention.

Adequate emergency management is very important and crucial in case of chemical injuries and burns. The quality and rapidity of emergency treatment determines the prognosis quod visum.
