Abstract
The text presents an analysis of the discussion on the possible implementation of direct election of mayors in the Czech Republic, while analyzing the model proposed by the government of Petr Nečas and examining its inspiration in the Slovak model. The main benefit lies in the periodization of individual stages of discussion and identification of attitudes and roles of individual actors, which allows for the possibility to assess the feasibility of introducing direct elections in future periods.
