Statistical literacy is a term widely used abroad. There is not yet in use in the Czech Republic.
The aim of this paper is to familiarize professionals with this concept and its importance for the development of future science teachers. Nowadays, when inquiry-based learning comes to the foreground it increases the importance of the ability to properly understand the various charts and figures that often represent the results of research.
It is this understanding is, among other things included in these statistical literacy. Further, the paper offers results of a survey of statistical literacy among students and teachers of biology in the Czech Republic.
