Abstract
The author of this chapter explains the iconography of "The finger of John Baptist", that was worshiped in High Middle Ages in the monastery of Osek in Northwest Bohemia. During the Baroque decoration of the cloister church, the new paintings were put on altars at the columns.
As the author of this chapter states, one of the new painting was made by Anton Kern with the topic Saint John writes the Evangelium, today preserved in the National gallery in Prague. On a preparatory drawing for this altarpiece, today in Staedel Institute in Frankfurt, Anton Kern sketched the figure of John the Baptist in the background.
On a recto side, there is an inscription that confirms that the designed painting was painted for the Osek monastery.
