Abstract

The study discusses the importance of representation of courtly portraits of Mary of Hungary and posthumous portraits of Louis Jagiello. It is highlighted the importance of widows portraits of the 16th Century with regard to the Dutch tradition of the 15th Century.

Reflected is also necessity to create the posthumous portrait of a monarch. Followed examples of panel painting and prints are seen in the context of contemporary art production in the Central Europe and the Netherlands.
