Abstract

On the example of the church of Dominican nuns on Margaret Island in Budapest, this article handles the issue of the long presbytery in churches of women mendicant orders in the 13th century. In many churches, the empora for nuns and the long presbytery occur simultaneously.

It must be assumed that in the empora, the nuns gathered at Mass, while in the presbytery were regular prayers. They also included prayers for the founder and donors of the monastery, who were usually buried at this place.
