Abstract

This paper summaries information about the passive sampling methods that can be applied for monitoring of contaminated sites. We discuss advantages and disadvantages of passive sampling compared to conventional sampling and describe different types of passive samplers and the processes behind them.

In the second part of the paper 4 passive samplers that have been used within the PASSES project are described in detail. Moreover recommendations on the suitability of different samplers for different purposes as well as on their handling are also included based on our experience.
