Aging and the possibilities of supporting cognitive functions

Abstract

The workshop was attended by approximately 40 listeners, especially from the ranks of pharmacists, social workers and third-age students. The workshop focused on the topic of cognitive functions, their disorders, especially the most common causes - dementia and the possibility of cognitive training.

In the afternoon section, Doc. Iva Holmerova focused on knowledge in the care of patients with Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia, complemented by numerous experiences from abroad and introducing the anticipated care strategy for the future.

The lecture followed by Mgr. Markéta Šplíchalová concerning the form of cognitive functions, their changes with increasing age and an overview of possible ways of measuring cognitive functions.

The afternoon workshop ended with Mgr. Jitka Sucha practical advice on how an individual can exercise cognitive functions, complemented by specific methods, applicable to healthy seniors as well as to training in patients with cognitive impairment.
