In the second half of the 20th century plastics contributes to the pollution of the environment. Even though they are relatively stable, they release a number of substances whose effects on human health is almost unknown.
These include endocrine disruptors capable of disrupting hormonal balance in the human body with severe reproductive effects. Some endocrine disruptors have already been replaced by other substances.
Unfortunately, in a few cases, they were replaced with the substances with similar or worse negative effect. An illustrative example is the replacement of endocrine disruptor bisphenol A in many commonly used materials with bisphenol S.
