Abstract

The Hungarian Parliament approved a bill that openly attacks the Central European University, founded by George Soros - so called Lex CEU. A number of people is not concerned with this law, because there is a similar law in the Czech Republic, which limits work of foreign founded universities.

By drawing a comparison with the Czech Republic, they do not see that as a problematic issue for quality of democracy. The article presents a view that seeing Lex CEU only in strict legal terms, without broader context is dangerous, because it is exactly this approach that illiberal regimes use to hide their true nature.
