Legal Historical Aspects of the Salt Treaty

Publication at Third Faculty of Medicine |
2017

Abstract

The article deals with the origin, structure and content of the concordat agreement concluded between the Holy See and the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1630, generally called the Salt Treaty. Attempts to question the validity of the concordat agreement are observed and illustrated with an anonymous Latin text from the mid-17th century.

Particular attention is paid to violation of the concordat agreement, often repeated by the state during the 18th century. The authority of the state tried to deprive the Holy See of the right to distribute funds from the salt treasury.

This process was concluded by its fusion with the land religious fund during the reign of the Emperor Joseph II.
