The article deals with archaeological remains of prehistoric buildings, mainly houses, as a support for reconstruction of such objects. After a classification of material sources, the author follows the factors which contribute to the forming of an archaeological source since the building process through the life of the house and a row of trasnformation processes up to the archaeological evidence documented in the course of excavations.
The essential known constructional principles and solutions for the individual parts of a house (foundations, the floor, the bearing system and the walls, the roof) are introduced here. The question about a right defining and interpreting of a house plan recorded archaeologically, with a respect to the problem of dating the post holes.
Some methodical criteria to be followed in reconstruction attemps are proposed in the conclusion.
