Abstrakt
Between May 2014 and Sept. 2015 we studied the ant fauna of the Dolní Poohří region (NW Bohemia, Czech Republic). Ants were collected in 32 localities spread throughout the region.
We identified there at least 39 ant species. In the lowland forest and parks along the Ohře River we found 21 species.
In the steppe environment, represented there mostly by abandoned orchards and to a lesser extent by unused pastures, or exceptionally by natural steppe, 31 species were recorded. Most interesting was the frequent occurrence of Camponotus truncatus (Spinola, 1808) which inhabits above all the lowland forest and parks along the river but it was also often found in abandoned orchards and on fruit trees along roads.
In some localities it was fairly abundant, mainly on poplar trees along the river. We conclude that the ant fauna of the region is still relatively rich.
However, the remnants of natural steppe inhabited, e. g., by Ponera testacea Emery, 1895, Myrmica specioides Bondroit, 1918, Temnothorax tuberum (Fabricius, 1775) and Tapinoma subboreale Seifert, 2012 should be protected.
