Abstract
Presented is a case of a patient after bone marrow transplantation for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She developed graft-versus-host-disease and was diagnosed with immunodeficiency.
During the follow-up, she developed bronchiectasis and her condition slowly deteriorated. Subsequently, a large bulla was detected in her left upper lobe; in the inoperable patient with severe lung function impairment, the finding was managed atypically, but with an excellent effect, by implanting an endobronchial valve.
The article discusses lung manifestations of chronic graft-versus-host-disease and the origin of bronchiectasis and the air space in the left upper lobe. We underline the necessity for multidisciplinary cooperation in managing such complicated conditions including the role of a pulmonologist in the diagnosis and therapy of hemato-oncological patients.
