Abstract

Using more than a dozen of the most influential books by Bhagwan Rajneesh (1931-1990), the author summarizes the main features of Tantra as understood by this Indian spiritual teacher. Rajneesh (later called Osho) tried to establish two experimental communes based on his conception of Tantra (1974-1981 in Poona, India, and 1981-1985 in Rajneeshpuram, Oregon).

Although these communes did not realize his visions completely, his ideas have been largely successful, especially among Western seekers of alternative religion and these ideas and corresponding practices became a significant component of the so called "Neotantra".
