Analysis of the Book of Ecclesiastes 1,12-18

Publication |
2017

Abstract

The article deals with the translation and interpretation of the original Hebrew text of the Book of Ecclesiastes 1,12-18. The selected part of the text focuses on the issue of universal principles of the world, making the reader aware of the ephemeral nature of all worldly events, including the highest human values, and turning his attention to God as the only meaning of existence.

The article employs the method of synchronic textual analysis, accentuating the semantic background of particular Hebrew words, macrosyntactical markers, parallelisms, and sentence constituents. One of the most significant points raised in this essay is the timeless nature of Hebrew verbs, for they give the texts its liveliness.
