Comparison of the Effectiveness Between a Solution of Sulfate Salts and Polyethylene Glycol in Bowel Preparation for Screening Colonoscopy and Randomized, Single-Blind Study

Publication

Abstract

462 individuals were included, 233 (50,4 %) used PEG while 229 (49,6 %) used SS. Split dose bowel preparation was not respected in 29 (12 %) individuals with PEG and 32 (14 %) with SS.

Adequate bowel cleansing was comparable for both (97 % PEG vs. 94 % SS; p = 0,197). Split dose bowel preparation shows conclusively higher effectiveness.

ADR was comparable for both groups: adenoma (PEG 39 % vs. 44 %; p = 0,346), advanced adenoma (6 % PEG vs.7 % SS; p = 1,00), carcinoma (0, 4 % PEG vs. 0,4 % SS).
