The loudness dependence of the auditory evoked potential (LDAEP) is an easily accessible and non-invasive electrophysiological method of assessing neuromodulatory effects of monoamines, specifically serotonin, on central nervous system. Previous studies showed that the LDAEP can be a useful tool in clinical practice in predicting the therapeutic effect of SSRI in depressive disorder.
The review summarizes current knowledge about this potential marker of central serotonergic function which could become one of the objective diagnostic methods in psychiatry.
