Periocular injuries can affect all tissue structures that are located in the immediate vicinity of the eye, including the eyelids and lacrimal passages. As the ocular adnexes perform essential functions for the preservation of the eye, their injuries can significantly and impair vision, in some cases permanently, or even lead to blindness, similarly to (intra-)ocular trauma.
This paper presents cases of trauma affecting eyelids and lacrimal pathways as well as possible therapeutic approaches.
