Abstract

Rutin, quercetin-3-O-rutinoside, was previously shown by us to deteriorate catecholamine cardiotoxocitity. The aim of the study was to confirm this finding and to check the mechanism.

In line with our previous findings, rutin did not (11.5 or 46 mg/kg, i.v.) reduce the isoprenaline-induced mortality within 2 hours although the lower dose significantly reduced cardiac troponin T (cTnT). On the contrary, the higher dose increased the mortality.

The probable mechanism of this phenomenon was the enhanced intracellular reactive oxygen species by rutin.
