Abstract

In this article, I investigate relations of space structuring and multiplicative thinking with the success in solving volume and area problems. The observations are made based on the analysis of written tests of 748 Czech pupils from grades 6 to 9.

Phenomena observed in solutions of three volume problems are used as indicators of the level of space structuring and multiplicative thinking, which is then related to the pupils' result in the conceptual part of the test. Relatively strong connections were identified for both factors.
