Early Variscan (and pre-Variscan) evolution of the western part of the Teplá-Barrandian Unit

Abstract

This section of the CETEG 2015 field trip guide presents recent view on the Variscan geodynamic evolution of the Bohemian Massif and new data gathered at the western margin of the Teplá-Barrandian Domain. Based on multidisciplinary approach combining structural geology, geochronology, metamorphic petrology and P-T modeling we propose new early-Variscan tectonic model for the Teplá Crystalline Complex (TCC) and Mariánské-Lázně Complex (MLC).

On five field localities we illustrate that both complexes experienced the same two stage early-Variscan evolution. First stage is represented by prograde metamorphism and vertical fabric formation and is interpreted as thickening of the fore-arc domain.

Second stage, which immediately follows appears by retrogression of the peak mineral assemblages and shallow fabric formation and is interpreted as detachment accommodated exhumation of the deep-seated MLC from below TCC.
