Abstract

Monograph Pediatric Cardiac Surgery summarizes the current state of knowledge and experience with surgical treatment of congenital heart defects in children, achieved in center with nationwide coverage - in the Children's Heart Centre, Prague - Motol. The book is dedicated to those who deal with the treatment of children with congenital heart defects from birth to adulthood, especially young doctors, nurses and cardiologists in the field, who are involved in the care of these children and interested in problems of congenital heart defects, surgical techniques of their recostruction and possible postoperative complications, residual findigs and long-term results after surgery.

The book describes all surgical methods used at present, bud even the older ones, many of which were replaced by new procedures. This is due to the fact patients, who were operated for a congenital defect with formerly used procedures often in the neonatal period or later in childhood, reached already adulthood with good functional circulation state and the good quality of life.

The care of those patients was the task of outpatient paediatric cardiologists, who had to delegate the care to cardiologists for adults, namely the care of patients, who had residual circulatory problems that should be treated in adulthood. The book contributes to the fund of current knowledge in th field of pediatric cardiac surgery in our country and also presents its high standard, recorded in the international databases.
