Was Sulla a gentleman? Ancient Rome in the Ferdinand Peroutka's lesser-known drama

Abstract

The paper deals with the lesser-known drama of Ferdinand Peroutka "Šťastlivec Sulla" (Lucky Sulla) with the timeless theme of power and its abuse, that Peroutka tried to show through the ancient scenes classics with the aid of the story from the crisis period of the Ancient Roman Republic. It will present an antique context of this drama, compare it with its subsequent adaptations and outline the measures governing Peroutka's play script.
