Abstract

This article "Revolution in evolutionary biology as the beginning of a revolution on morals" focuses on the transformation of the relationship between humans and animals in the context of revolution in evolutionary biology. The first part deals with René Descartes's idea that animals exist like unthinking machines.

According to Descartes, animals don't posses the souls and it is a reason why they have no consciousness and why they can not feel the pain. The second part deals with Charles Darwin's revolutionary discovery that the difference in mind between man and the higher animals is one of degree and not of kind.

According to Darwin, there is no doubt that animals can feel the pain. The last part deals with the question whether the membership of species is morally relevant.

According to contemporary philosopher Peter Singer, speciesism is as unfair as racism or sexism, which also consider the physical diferences as morally relevant.
