Abstract
Sir Walter Scott's works influenced many British and foreign authors, filmmakers, painters and musicians. I am doing my PhD. in history and therefore I was influenced more by Scott's biographies.
In 2012 I published a novel called Smrt Múz (Death of Muses) about Scott's life and friends. The paper is focused on methods I used during my long-term research - and what was the difference between a regular historical research and a research for the purposes of novel writing.
Even though I mixed facts and fiction in my novel, I intended to keep all real historic events and Scott's original quotes as accurate as possible and I will show some examples of mixing my historical fiction with Scott's non-fiction texts such as his journal and letters. The paper also focuses on different translation and stylistic issues - my novel was written in Czech so I had to translate and adjust some English literary materials written by Scott himself and various members of his circle.
