Geotemporal Querying of Social Networks and Summarization

Abstract

Social network querying means submitting requests for information to a social network API in order to retrieve posts satisfying some user needs expressed in the query. Geotemporal summarization of the retrieved posts is aimed at identifying geographic regions and/or time intervals in which/when many posts have been created.

The assumption is that many posts created in the same region in close period of time are an indication of the occurrence of an event. Thus, the task of geotemporal summarization is the identification of either known or unpredicted events occurred in specific regions at specific time.
