Abstrakt
The dissertation research project investigates the effect of pupils' and teachers' attitude toward science (and its teaching) on grade 5 pupils' problem-solving skills.There are several reasons to pay attention to this issue. It relates to the Czech pupils' results in the international assessments PISA and TIMSS.
Czech pupils overall achieve above-average results especially in tasks aimed at reproducing knowledge, but they fail in solving tasks focused on reasoning and application of scientific findings. The dissertation project also presents an opportunity to get insight into everyday learning reality and then try to help in creation of conditions for the development of pupils' scientific literacy.
It is important to increase pupils' interest in science.
