Abstract

Throughout the 20th century it was possible to record debates about the changing roles of the state, and even about the change of its very nature. The development of an international system, European integration or decolonization, and the consolidation of social statehood or the direct applicability of human rights contributed to this.

The by-product of these debates has been disputes over whether modern states are rising, falling or even dying. Here is a specific Czech discussion on the twilight of the modern state
