Fertility, pregnancy and breastfeeding in patients with inflammatory bowel disease

Abstract

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic disease affecting mainly young people in their reproductive years. IBD therefore has a major impact on patients'family planning decisions.

Management of IBD in pregnancy requiers a challenging balance between optimal disease control and safety considerations. The areas of concern are of the activity of illnes and treatment regimen on the course of gravidity, on foetal development, on lactation, and other areas.
