Abstract

Malignant solitary fibrous tumour (SFT) arising in the kidney is extremely rare, with approximately 11 cases having been reported in the literature. Recent studies have shown that the presence of fusions between the NAB2 and STAT6 genes on chromosome 12q13 in the majority of SFTs, with a NAB2-STAT6 fusion gene transcript detected in 55e100% of SFTs.6,7 Most of the studies reviewed performed real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) using RNA extracted from formalin fixed, paraffin embedded tissues to detect NAB2-STAT6 fusion gene.
