In our paper, we will focus on the changes in the memory of and remembering the Second World War. Along with researchers in the field of memory studies, we claim that visuality plays the determining role in the process of remembering the Second World War and the Holocaust today.

We can watch the growing importance of images and photos in our communication, especially with the development of picture-based social networks like Pinterest, Instagram, or Snapchat. This process also influences our memory and the ways that we create meanings of the past.

In our analysis, we will describe several case studies from these social media networks, where we are witnesses of the recontextualisation of visual icons connected with the Second World War and the Holocaust. For which purposes are these images used? How is this visual communication about the war connected to the traditional narratives?
