Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2017

Abstract

In recent decades, a shift in approach to Cultural Heritage has occured. Intangible heritage has been focused more instead of "the traditional archaelogist approach" stressing mostly the tangibility of the heritage objects and places.

Paper will give a general summary of the development of Heritage Concepts with the overview of the main approaches to Cultural Heritage in humanities, especially in history. Is Cultural Heritage already a pre-modern concept of valuation and preservation of historical places and objects, or is it a plain construct imagined by the modern society? What is Heritage and who decides? What was the shift and the relation between the concepts of tangible and intagible heritage? Is it merely a concept of management and preservation of the tangible objects, but how can it be analyzed as a specific social praxis, as the "Heritagization"? Who are the actors of of Cultural Heritage, what are their inteserts? How is Heritage connected to other important concepts of social science (Memory, Identity, Power)? Discussion will follow.
