Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is generally recognized for his role in the Indian independence movement. Much less is known about his work in South Africa, where he spent almost half of his active political life.

How the African experience with colonial powers influenced Gandhi's political theory and praxis? What was the role of Gandhian thoughts in the global politics of the second half of the 20th century? And, last but not least, are there any recent African interventions into contemporary Indian political thinking more than one hundred years after Gandhi's return to India?
