Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2016

Abstract

In 2016, India commemorates 125 years from the birth and 60 years from the death of B. R.

Ambedkar, the main architect of Indian constitution and the leader of the Dalit movement. These two anniversaries make an opportunity to assess Ambedkar's legacy in contemporary Indian politics.

The paper will focus on the key thoughts in Ambedkar's work and their appropriation and development in theoretical work of his followers, and also in the political practice. A special attention will be paid to the ambivalent relation of higher and lower castes on the political level.
