The American Bar: A Symbol of the Americanization of Europe?

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2016

Abstract

The American Bar is an ambivalent representation of a unique concept of place and how place changes over time. As such it can be viewed as a manifestation of transatlantic transformation.

During the first half of the 20th century, the institution of the American Bar symbolized newly established cultural elements that were gradually penetrating into society as a whole. This venue for cultural transmission can be viewed as a passenger concept venue.

Scientific literature, in Czechia or in the world as a whole, has not sufficiently entertained the concept of place within the context of transatlantic transformation. This current research about a unique aspect of place could be considered a significant step for approaches to human geography and, perhaps to a lesser degree, to cultural geography as well.
