New Visuality of WWII

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2017

Abstract

The chapter explores visual representations of WWII and the Holocaust in the film, literature and digital environment, especially on the Pinterest. We focused on contemporary popculture and more general changes of perception of the past.

The study combines methodological inspirations from memory studies (Marianne Hirsch) and media theory (David Bolter, Richard Grusin). We used the Pinterest as a model that illustrates some common trends in the commemoration of WWII and the Holocaust in the digital era.

We called these shifts "new visiuality".
