Inconspicuous Documentary about Czech Sociology: Periodical AUC Philosophica et Historica - Studia Sociologica, its Features and Transformations
Abstract
Periodical AUC Philosophica et Historica - Studia Sociologica has been continuously published by the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Arts of the Charles University in Prague since the year 1968. Our text aims to map the basic features of this periodical, its thematic orientations, author composition and citation structure, and to put these findings in the context of the historical development of this periodical, and by extension also the development of Czech (and Slovak) sociology as such.
To achieve this aim, we have applied not only standard approach of content analysis, but also methodologically innovative citation network analysis. The results show that there is permanently high representation of the texts dealing with sociological theory in the periodical.
After 1989 we can see receding interest in the topic of sociological tradition in favour of empirically oriented research of social reality (especially social modernization and transformation, social deviance and crime, environmental issues). As well the citation structure reflects the transformation of historical and political circumstances in which the periodical has been published during the half-century of its existence.
